Thoughts? I'm reading the fifth one right now, and I really like them. I love the characters, the imagination and the witty humor.

Haven't read them in a while.

I read up through the fifth one, then dropped the series. I know that's a long ways to go before dropping a series, but I had my reasons. As much as I loved Rowling's writing, it got darker and darker as it went on... Not my entire reason, but a part of it.

Indeed. But like I said, there were other reasons.

I know this is a super old thread, but I finally got around to reading this series, and I absolutely loved the books. I think I read through all of them in less than two weeks, then promptly bought all the movies on iTunes. Luna Lovegood might just be one of my favorite literary characters ever. While I do agree that the books get progressively darker as they go on, I think it is necessary considering the direction the overall plot goes.

They were good books. At the time I just hated how long it took for her to come out with the next in series.

Supposedly there's another one coming out.

I swore off all of jk rowling's new books after how long harry potter book.

@Dadinator: I hate waiting for the next book in a series. I'm in that exact position now with George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire. I'll probably be close to retirement by the time he finishes the 7th or possibly 8th book

Luckily I had the good fortune of just being able to binge read Harry Potter.
