Hard to explain... On Battlestar Galactica, they have characters called "Cylons". They are all made, not born. And there are a limited number of different "models", so there are a lot of copies of each model.
Boomer is a Cylon (copy), and she impersonates Athena (another copy of the same model who had betrayed the Cylons because she fell in love with a human). And Hera is Athena's (good copy's) daughter. Boomer steals the poor little girl and takes her back to the bad guys.
Yeah, Athena and her husband were my favorite characters on the show.
