Right! I also wonder what would have happened if I'd killed one of the bad guys earlier in the game. Would he still have helped the other bad guys? Or what? What would have happened? But alas! I did not save backups of the different stages of the game.....

Yeah, save often, save a lot! lol... Whenever a game gives me the choice to kill a villain or let them go, I almost always let them go.

Spiderweb software (I should just rename this thread...) is going to be remaking Avernum 2. This makes me happy, as the old version no longer runs on my computer... Though #3 is the one I really want to see re-done...

Right, and he remade the first one a couple years ago. He seems to alternate between new games and regenerating old games.
