The wonderous man who created a world, then spent years and years expanding it, creating entire cultures, languages, mythologies, etc. His best-known works are of Middle Earth, though he did work on a few unrelated tales.

I have read the lord of the rings trilogy and the hobbit. I plan to read more but haven't gotten around to it.

I have only read The Hobbit and LOTR.

The Hobbit was my first fantasy novel (I was somewhere between eight and ten) and I had to sneak it into the house so my parents wouldn't find out that I was reading a book with magic in it. It was a full color illustrated anniversary edition and it was...*sigh* it's hard to describe how much I loved it.

I don't like the concept of banning books.

My experience was that my parents lost the ability to talk about their disagreements with my reading preferences, but that didn't mean I didn't read it. I was just left to myself to for, opinions. I want the option to talk to my children.

But yeah, all the books are fantastic. I finally talked hubs into reading LOTR. He just got to Bree and, despite his griping about the length, he likes it. I can tell.

I've only read the hobbit, but our library is doing the first of LOTR for the book club, so I really should read it.

We began by helping our children choose the books to read. Then we let them choose but we read the books also. This way we could discuss anything we thought was inappropriate or that needed discussing. Then we let them choose but told them to remember our standards of what is and isn't acceptable and let them read on their own. Now they come to us to discuss many topics that are touched on by the books and we love that.

Gwen I agree The Barrow and thom were awesome I think thom was probably my favorite character behind him in second was Aragorn.

So many people think Tolkien's books are boring. I for one, love them though. Well at least The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

I love his books.... I haven't read too many outside of LOTR and the Hobbit, but I love them...
