Oz the Great and Powerful.
It was a fun movie. I feel like it captured the spirit of the original, and I loved the visual style of the film. The 4:3 ratio, black and white opening was awesome. I also felt like the gaudy, bright backdrops for the film felt suitably fake compared to the actors, something I think benefited the film rather than detracting from it. The visuals caused much of the movie to feel like some of the old live action/animation combinations (think the old Narnia films), and I really liked the effect.
World War Z
Absolutely nothing like the book, but that's okay. There were some little homages to the novel for those who pay very close attention, but mostly it's just a ridiculously fun zombie blockbuster. It was definitely much, much more of a zombie film than the trailers make it seem. The end in particular gave me a very Dawn of the Dead vibe. The combination of some classic claustrophobic zombie action towards the end, and the insanely massive outbreak scenarios, made for a fresh take on the genre. I thought the last act took an awkward turn that wasn't great, but over all I recommend it if you're a zombie fan. Just don't expect a faithful adaption of Max Brooks' novel.
