Read: Admission by Travis Thrasher
Interesting mystery, which is something I've come to expect from Thrasher's novels. Thrasher has a real talent for characterization, and the protagonist's voice is very strong in the book. That said, his protagonist is not the most likable character, and he's often frustrating. The book has two timelines, the protagonist's "present" that's told in the past tense, and then the protagonist's "past" also told in past tense, but the "present" is told in the first person, while the "past" is told in the third. This doesn't make much sense to me, but I can go with it.
The book deals a lot with poor choices, leading to more poor choices, leading to worse choices, spiraling down a very dark path, and how even years later, poor choices of the past can come back to haunt you in terrible ways. And how God stays with us, even when we make said poor choices.
"I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you."
