Fury
This is quite possibly one of the best movies I've seen this year. It definitely bucks the trend of the romanticization of WWII that you see in most films. It presents the war in all its horrible savagery. I think Brad Pitt's character sums up the film pretty well when he says, "Ideals are peaceful, history is violent."
While I think a good case could be made for Lone Survivor earlier this year, Fury may just be the best anti-war film I've seen since All Quiet on the Western Front. While the actual content of the movie can be difficult to sit through at times, I will say that the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous. I believe the entire movie was shot on actual film with all practical effects, which is quite refreshing in a time when pretty much everything is shot digitally with CGI everywhere.
